TUI Cruises' Mein Schiff 7 completes first renewable methanol bunkering

The TUI Cruises vessel Mein Schiff 7 has successfully completed its first bunkering operation using renewable methanol at the Ostseekai pier in the Port of Kiel. The operation involved the delivery of approximately 25 cubic meters of methanol derived from renewable raw materials, primarily intended for the ship's boiler operations.

The project was a collaborative effort involving MB Energy, which supplied the fuel, and Johs. Martens Spedition, which managed the road transport and physical delivery at the terminal. To further reduce emissions during the process, the delivery truck was powered by HVO 100 instead of conventional diesel.

This successful test demonstrates that alternative marine fuels can be integrated into existing port operations safely and reliably under real-world conditions. The Mein Schiff 7, a 2024 build, is designed to operate on both conventional fuels and methanol, supporting the maritime industry's transition toward more sustainable and lower-carbon operations.
