Tuineje Mayor Demands State Relocate Intercepted Fishing Vessel from Gran Tarajal
Mayor David Herrera of Tuineje has formally requested that the Spanish State remove a fishing vessel intercepted by the Guardia Civil and Salvamento Marítimo and currently moored at the commercial pier in Gran Tarajal, Fuerteventura. The boat, previously reported stolen in Morocco, was seized in Canary Islands waters and docked without prior notification to the municipal council or the regional government.
Herrera criticises the lack of coordination, noting that the vessel remains unattended, potentially hazardous due to fuel and battery residues, and is positioned in a pier exposed to strong southern winds. He urges that the ship be towed to the state‑managed port of Puerto del Rosario, with the municipality already cooperating with Juan Luis López, director of Puertos Canarios in Fuerteventura, to gather the necessary documentation for the request.
