Tukaram Mundhe leads food safety crackdown in Maharashtra
Tukaram Mundhe, the food commissioner for Maharashtra, India, has gained significant social media attention following a series of rigorous food safety inspections across the state. Since taking office in May, Mundhe has overseen thousands of inspections targeting restaurants, cafes, and other food businesses to enforce public health laws.
Recent inspections in Mumbai revealed severe hygiene violations, including pest infestations and spoiled food, even within members-only clubs. The crackdown has resulted in the suspension of licenses for several quick-commerce warehouses and the issuance of notices to Bollywood celebrities for advertisements suspected of promoting restricted products. Mundhe has stated that enforcement will continue regardless of a business's size or reputation.
