Tullow Oil begins supplying crude to Ghanaian refineries
Tullow Oil has begun supplying crude oil from its Ghanaian fields to local refineries, marking a shift toward domestic refining in the country. The first cargo was sold earlier this year to Sentuo Oil Refinery.
The crude is sourced from the Jubilee, Tweneboa, Enyenra, and Ntomme (TEN) fields. Tullow Chief Financial Officer Richard Miller described the move as a “fantastic achievement” for Ghana’s oil sector, noting that the transactions were conducted on purely commercial terms with supporting financing arrangements.
Historically, much of Ghana’s crude was marketed through global commodities firm Glencore Energy UK Limited, which served as the exclusive marketer for Tullow’s entitlement. This, combined with previous operational constraints at the Tema Oil Refinery, contributed to the country's reliance on imported petroleum products.
Sentuo Oil Refinery has emerged as a significant buyer of crude from various partners operating in Ghana’s oil fields. Looking ahead, Tullow expects to increase its crude liftings, targeting 14 cargoes in 2026, with eleven expected from the Jubilee field and three from the TEN fields.
