Tulsa voters to decide on proposed hotel guest tax increase
Tulsa voters are set to decide on November 3 whether to increase the city’s hotel guest tax from 5% to 9.9%. The proposed measure aims to generate an estimated $20.6 million in annual revenue.
Supporters argue the funds are necessary to improve major local venues, including the BOK Center, Arvest Convention Center, and the Tulsa Performing Arts Center. Tourism leaders suggest the increase is vital to remain competitive with other regions that have invested in entertainment and convention facilities to attract concerts, tournaments, and large-scale events.
The current hotel guest tax rate has remained unchanged for over 40 years. Proponents also note that increased tourism revenue can support local businesses and assist in the preservation of historic buildings.
