Tulsi Gabbard Resigns as U.S. Director of National Intelligence

Tulsi Gabbard, a former U.S. Representative from Hawaii and a combat veteran, stepped down from her role as Director of National Intelligence (DNI). Appointed to lead the intelligence community, she was noted for emphasizing factual reporting and accountability within the agency. Her resignation was announced this week and attributed to personal reasons.

Gabbard's public career began in the Hawaii State Legislature in 2002, followed by service in the Hawaiian Army National Guard, including a deployment to Iraq. She later served on Honolulu's City Council, was elected to Congress in 2012, and held senior positions on the Armed Services, Homeland Security, and Foreign Affairs committees. In 2013 she became vice chair of the Democratic National Committee before resigning in 2016 over internal party disputes. After a 2020 presidential bid, she was selected by the Trump administration to head the intelligence community, a role she held until her recent departure.
