Tulum introduces Danza de los Huahuas to boost cultural tourism
As part of the ‘Plan Tulum Renace’, the Mexican government is introducing Danza de los Huahuas performances to the Tulum Archaeological Zone and Jaguar Park. This initiative is a collaborative effort between the Secretariat of Tourism, the Secretariat of Culture, and Grupo Mundo Maya to strengthen the cultural offerings available to residents and visitors.
The traditional dance features four dancers spinning on the ends of wooden blades, a practice with cultural ties to the Voladores de Papantla. Performances are scheduled from Wednesday to Sunday through December, with rotating times at both the archaeological site and the Jaguar Park Visitor Center.
Josefina Rodríguez Zamora, head of the Secretariat of Tourism, stated that this coordination aims to position Tulum as a destination that integrates natural, historical, and cultural wealth.
