Tulum receives 1,200 monthly deportations from the United States

Tulum is receiving approximately 1,200 deportees per month arriving from the United States. These repatriated individuals, including minors, arrive via the Felipe Carrillo Puerto International Airport and are subsequently transported to Cancún to complete necessary administrative procedures.

Arturo Álvarez Escalera, delegate of the DIF, noted that many of the minors being sheltered are Mexican nationals from states such as Chiapas, Tabasco, and Oaxaca, though some are foreign nationals from countries including Brazil, El Salvador, Cuba, and Guatemala. In such cases, the National Institute of Migration (INM) coordinates with the respective embassies.

The deportees often arrive without identification or personal belongings, as they are frequently detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during transit. Under the ‘México te abraza’ program, the INM facilitates these transfers, with many deportees originating from various Mexican states including Guerrero, Guanajuato, Veracruz, and Puebla.
