TUM students injured in bus crash on Kisumu-Awasi highway
More than 20 students from the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) were injured when a 50‑seat bus lost control, veered off the Kisumu‑Awasi highway and overturned. The vehicle was traveling to Kisumu County for the burial of former student leader Elvis Otieno, known as “Beast.” Witnesses reported extensive damage to the bus, with the front section crushed and the windscreen shattered. Police, emergency responders and members of the public rescued survivors, evacuated the injured to nearby hospitals and recovered those trapped inside the wreckage. Siaya Governor James Orengo expressed deep sadness, suggesting that several lives may have been lost, though official casualty figures had not yet been confirmed. Authorities said an investigation would determine the cause of the crash once rescue operations were completed.
