Tumaco serves as a talent hub for Colombian football

The municipality of Tumaco has established a significant legacy as a breeding ground for professional football talent in Colombia. Through the efforts of the Tumaco Football School, directed by Professor Jesús Tuto Chávez, numerous athletes have risen to prominence in regional and national selections.

Notable players from the region include Carlos Estrada, who participated in the 1990 World Cup, and Leider Preciado, who was called up for the 1998 World Cup. Other prominent figures include Pablo Armero and Darwin Quintero, both of whom were part of the Colombian squad for the 2012 Copa América. More recently, Jáminton Campaz, born in Tumaco, has been recognized as part of the national team landscape heading toward the 2026 World Cup.
