Tuncay Sonel linked to Japan trip allegations in Gülistan Doku case

New details have emerged in the investigation into the disappearance of Gülistan Doku, which began in Tunceli on January 5, 2020. In recent testimony provided to the Erzurum Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, Burçin Hızlı Kahraman, the wife of detained former Tunceli Gendarmerie Commander Ali Kahraman, made several allegations regarding a 2024 trip to Japan.

Kahraman testified that former Tunceli Governor Tuncay Sonel and his daughter participated in the trip. She claimed that during the final days of the vacation, she observed Sonel and his daughter leaving a hotel with two large suitcases. Furthermore, she alleged that the costs for these suitcases, as well as the accommodation expenses, were paid for by a businessman from Ordu.

While the contents of the suitcases have not yet been verified, the family lawyer for Gülistan Doku, Ali Çimen, has raised several questions for the Sonel family. These inquiries include the identity of the businessman who allegedly covered the travel costs and whether there is a connection between this individual and the construction of the Sonel Business Center in Adana. The investigation remains ongoing.
