Tuncel Var produces 40 tile art pieces while managing dementia

Tuncel Var, an 86-year-old man living in the Çorlu district of Tekirdağ, has produced 40 tile art pieces in just seven months. Diagnosed with dementia four years ago, Var began practicing the art form following a recommendation from his daughter, Handan Var, to help him stay engaged and social.

Under the guidance of tile master Banu Kafalılar, Var has integrated the craft into his daily life. He reported that engaging in this creative process has helped slow the progression of his illness. Var is currently preparing to exhibit his works to demonstrate that age is not a barrier to productivity.
