Tunceli's 'One Midwife per Pregnancy' program supports 125 expectant mothers
The Turkish Health Ministry's "Her Gebeye Bir Ebe" (One Midwife per Pregnancy) initiative was rolled out in Tunceli in December, providing continuous, science‑based health counseling from pregnancy through the postpartum period. By June 2026 the program had reached 125 pregnant women. Dr. Hakkı Aktaş, chief physician of Tunceli State Hospital, said coordinators and midwives "physically, mentally and socially support all first‑time pregnant women in their last three months, visiting hospitals and offering direct information." Participants praised the home visits, regular phone calls and prenatal classes, noting reduced anxiety and better preparation for labor. The project is regarded as a successful local effort to safeguard maternal and infant health.
