Tundu Lissu treason trial adjourned until Monday

The treason trial of CHADEMA Chairman Tundu Lissu has been adjourned until Monday, August 17, 2026. The postponement occurred on Friday, August 14, after the prosecution requested more time due to a medical emergency involving their 18th witness.

State Attorney Ajuaye Nzegeli informed the court that the witness had to visit Muhimbili National Hospital for a clinic appointment. Lissu, who is representing himself, opposed the adjournment, arguing that he was ready to proceed. He cited a previous court order requiring the prosecution to present at least two witnesses per day and accused the state of repeatedly ignoring such directives.

A three-judge panel, led by Judge Dunstan Ndunguru and including Judges James Karayemahana and Ferdinand Kiwonde, granted the prosecution's request. The proceedings are expected to resume on Monday with the state presenting its remaining witnesses.
