Tungsten mining in A Gudiña suspended amid leadership scandal
Tungsten San Juan, a subsidiary of Eurobattery Minerals, has announced the “temporary suspension” of its tungsten mining operations in A Gudiña, Ourense. This decision follows significant legal and leadership turmoil within the company.
CEO Roberto García Martínez was recently sentenced in Spain to two years in prison and a fine of 3.46 million euros for fraud related to a mining investment in Sierra Leone. Additionally, he is under investigation by the Swedish Economic Crime Authority for alleged aggravated insider trading.
The scandal has led to the resignation of company president Jan-Olof Arnbom and the withdrawal of liquidity provider Mangold Fondkommission AB. In response to the situation, the A Gudiña City Council has halted activity until the company provides the necessary documentation to secure a municipal opening license. Eurobattery Minerals stated the suspension is intended to ensure “strict compliance with legal and regulatory obligations.”
