Colombia security forces combat illegal mining and drone attacks

Colombian security forces are conducting multiple operations to combat illegal activities and armed groups. In the Huila department, the Army reported a drone attack in La Plata where two grenades were launched against soldiers of the 26th Infantry Battalion. While the threat was neutralized using UAS Detector equipment and no injuries were reported, the incident occurred near a government convoy. In a separate incident in Caldono, Cauca, six soldiers were wounded by explosive devices launched from drones, an attack preliminarily attributed to FARC dissidents.

Simultaneously, authorities are targeting illegal mining operations. In Pitalito, Huila, a joint operation resulted in the seizure of heavy machinery valued at approximately 340 million pesos. In Antioquia, military and police forces dismantled three mining units in San Carlos, seizing equipment including dredges and motors, with an estimated monthly gold extraction capacity of 7,500 grams.

In Valle del Cauca, over 300 soldiers have been deployed to Jamundí to strengthen territorial control and combat criminal structures. The regional government also announced the acquisition of anti-drone technology to protect military personnel from aerial threats.
