Tunis, Sfax, and Sousse featured in Oxford Economics Global Cities Index 2026

Oxford Economics has released its Global Cities Index 2026, an annual ranking of 1,000 cities across 163 countries. The index evaluates cities based on five categories: Economy (30%), Human Capital (25%), Quality of Life (25%), Environment (10%), and Governance (10%).

Three Tunisian cities were included in the rankings: Tunis placed 502nd, Sfax 588th, and Sousse 698th. Tunis achieved the highest score for human capital among the three, while Sfax recorded the best environmental score in the country. All three cities received an identical governance score of 514, as the index applies a single national score to all cities within a country.

On a continental level, Cairo is ranked as the top African city at 255th globally, followed by Algiers (359th), Casablanca (384th), and Rabat (445th). Oxford Economics identified Cairo, Nairobi, Accra, Dakar, and Luanda as significant drivers of growth in Africa. Globally, New York holds the first position, followed by London in second and Paris in third.
