Tunis symposium addresses public enterprise governance

Directors general of public enterprises and establishments met in Tunis for a symposium focused on “Public Enterprise Governance: Responsible Leadership and Effective Performance.” The event was presided over by Salah Zouari, the Minister of Equipment and Housing, who is also managing the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy.

Minister Zouari emphasized that governance reform requires a transition toward an institutional model based on clear objectives, rapid decision-making, risk anticipation, and performance evaluation. Key priorities include strengthening the strategic role of boards of directors, deploying performance indicators paired with early warning systems, and enhancing transparency through accountability.

The discussions addressed current pressures facing these structures, such as increased competition, strained public finances, and a lack of trust between the state and its enterprises. Participants advocated for developing productive capacities, improving economic competitiveness, and promoting the quality of public services.
