Tunisia advances amended Water Code draft

The Tunisian Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries has announced that the amended draft of the Water Code has integrated feedback from various ministries and relevant structures. This updated version is intended to meet the requirements for submission to the Council of Ministers "dans les plus brefs délais" (as soon as possible), prior to being presented to the Assembly of the Representatives of the People for approval.

The announcement follows a written inquiry by Deputy Awatef Cheniti regarding delays in the legislative process. The Ministry noted that following a series of coordination meetings, an amended version was transmitted to the competent services on June 30, 2026. This version includes a detailed table addressing previous observations, initial drafts of application texts, and a note highlighting the reformative and innovative provisions of the project.
