Tunisia and Boeing discuss Tunisair fleet modernization

Tunisian authorities and Boeing have entered exploratory discussions regarding the modernization of the national carrier Tunisair’s fleet and the expansion of its aerial network. During a meeting in Tunis involving the Tunisian Minister of Transport and a Boeing delegation, officials discussed cooperation in civil aviation and the necessity of renewing the airline's aging aircraft.

Tunisair currently operates a fleet of 19 aircraft, the majority of which are held through long-term leases or financial leasing rather than full ownership. The airline faces significant financial challenges, reporting debt of 710 million dinars as of the first quarter of 2026.

Alongside these industrial discussions, Tunisia has launched the AeroSTAR program in collaboration with Boeing and Amideast. This educational initiative aims to introduce youth aged 15 to 18 to careers in the aeronautics and aerospace sectors through a 60-hour training academy and mentorship. Tunis is scheduled to host a regional camp for the program in the summer of 2027.
