Tunisia and Mauritius implement new energy security and conservation plans
Tunisia and Mauritius are implementing strategic measures to address rising electricity demand and energy security challenges.
In Tunisia, the government has approved an operational action plan to strengthen electrical production capacity. Led by Prime Minister Sara Zaafrani Zenzri, the strategy involves a multi-term approach to ensure supply continuity, improve production efficiency, and reduce energy deficits. The plan, presented by Minister Salah Zouari, focuses on mobilizing additional production capacities, restarting available resources, developing renewable energy, and enhancing electricity storage systems to manage consumption and mitigate geopolitical market fluctuations.
In Mauritius, the Cabinet has validated a new national energy-saving campaign scheduled from October 2026 to April 2027. This initiative aims to manage peak power demand and prevent shortages caused by climate change and international fuel market uncertainties. The campaign will utilize mass media and digital communication to encourage consumers to reduce or shift electricity usage, particularly during evening peak periods.
