Tunisia and South Korea partner on climate-smart agriculture project

Tunisia and South Korea have signed a ‘Record of Discussions’ to launch the ‘Climate-Smart Agriculture for Enhancing Productivity in Tunisia (ClimAT)’ project. The initiative is a collaboration between Tunisia’s Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA).

The project aims to modernize the Tunisian agricultural sector through advanced natural resource management and improved water governance. Key technical implementations include the installation of smart irrigation systems and the transformation of farms in the Kairouan, Bizerte, and Nabeul governorates into pilot farms.

The ClimAT project consists of three main pillars: strengthening research and development capacities for climate-adaptive agriculture, supporting agricultural infrastructure with technologies for sustainable wheat and olive production, and providing training programs for agricultural sector representatives. Tunisian officials noted that this partnership serves as a foundation for expanding cooperation into artificial intelligence, renewable energy, and health technologies.
