Tunisia and Thailand aim to rebalance trade with new cooperation projects

Tunisia and Thailand held a working session at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Tunis (CCIT) to address a long‑standing trade deficit that favours Thai imports. Vice‑president of the CCIT Najeh Ben Abdessalem met with a Thai embassy delegation led by commercial adviser Niwat Apichartbutra. The talks highlighted that Tunisian imports from Thailand – mainly automobiles, industrial machinery, electrical equipment, cereals, chemicals, rubber, oilseeds and medical devices – far exceed Tunisian exports to Thailand.

Both sides identified several sectors where Tunisia could increase its presence, including olive oil, dates, seafood, organic products, automotive components, cables, pharmaceuticals, natural cosmetics and information‑technology services. They agreed to strengthen business links to diversify and make bilateral trade more balanced and sustainable.
