Tunisia announces price drops for rice and hygiene products

The Tunisian Ministry of Commerce has announced upcoming price reductions for several consumer goods, including rice and various hygiene and cleaning products. Houssemeddine Touiti, Director General of Competition and Economic Research, stated that packaging issues regarding rice have been resolved. Approximately 7,000 tons of bulk rice are currently being packaged, with over 100 tons expected to enter the market daily starting next week at prices matching those of the Tunisian Trade Office. A price decrease for imported rice is also anticipated.

Regarding sugar, a reinforced distribution program will launch next week, providing 3,000 tons for household consumption. Authorities confirmed that stocks of wheat and sugar remain available and that international procurement efforts are ongoing. Additionally, the Ministry denied social media reports suggesting imminent price hikes for fuel, domestic gas, milk, vegetable oil, semolina, or flour.
