Tunisia attracts $137.6 million average in annual private finance
According to the OECD ‘Private Finance Mobilisation Report 2026’, Africa captured nearly 30% of the world’s private financing mobilized through public development finance between 2021 and 2024, averaging $19.7 billion annually.
While Tunisia has participated in this trend, its average annual mobilization of $137.6 million remains significantly lower than regional neighbors such as Morocco, which averaged $1.52 billion, and Egypt, which averaged $1.67 billion. Within the Maghreb, Tunisia ranks third, ahead of Algeria ($52 million annually) and Libya.
Approximately 40% of the financing mobilized in Africa during this period was directed toward climate projects, offering potential for Tunisian SMEs in renewable energy, water, and industry. However, experts suggest that Tunisia needs to move away from relying on occasional large-scale deals and instead focus on building a more consistent pipeline of bankable projects through technical support for SMEs to ensure more regular capital access.
