Tunisia President Kaïs Saïed Holds Series of African Diplomatic Meetings

President Kaïs Saïed met several African officials in mid‑June 2026 to reinforce Tunisia’s role in regional cooperation. On 19 June he received Salma Malika Haddadi, vice‑president of the African Union Commission, at the Carthage Palace, praising Algeria’s role in her election and urging stronger, renewed approaches within the African Union, while reiterating support for the right of the Palestinian people to statehood.

Two days earlier, on 17 June, Saïed welcomed Mauritanian foreign minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug as a special envoy. The discussion highlighted historic cultural ties, and the President confirmed Tunisia’s intent to deepen economic, commercial, cultural and scientific collaboration with Mauritania.

On 16 June, Tunisian foreign minister Mohamed Ali Nafti hosted Togolese foreign minister Robert Dussey. The ministers signed a memorandum of understanding on bilateral foreign‑ministerial consultations and examined cooperation across trade, technology, tourism, agriculture, health, higher education, defence, security and migration. They also endorsed Togo’s “Correct the Map” initiative and pledged to improve legal frameworks for bilateral commerce.
