Tunisia defends reform and human rights at UN General Assembly

Tunisian Foreign Minister Mohamed Ali Nafti addressed the high-level general debate of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, outlining the nation's commitment to reform and human rights.

Nafti stated that under the leadership of President Kais Saïed, Tunisia is continuing the reform process initiated on July 25, 2021, to establish a democracy aligned with aspirations for progress and prosperity. He emphasized adherence to the Constitution of July 25, 2022, highlighting the universality of economic, social, cultural, and climate rights, specifically the right to development.

Regarding social progress, the Minister noted that successful reform is inseparable from the participation of women and youth in public life. He reaffirmed Tunisia's commitment to increasing women's presence in decision-making bodies and combating discrimination and violence. Additionally, he stressed the importance of youth empowerment in the country's political, economic, and social development. On the economic front, Nafti expressed a desire to attract investment and diversify international partnerships based on mutual respect and interest.
