Tunisia economy grows 2.3% in Q2 2026

Tunisia's economy grew by 2.3% in the second quarter of 2026 compared to the same period the previous year, according to preliminary data from the National Institute of Statistics. On a quarterly basis, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) rose by 1.4% compared to the first quarter of 2026.

Growth was primarily driven by the services sector, which grew by 1.9% and contributed 1.18 percentage points to the total, bolstered by increases in hotels, restaurants, cafes, information, and transport. The agricultural sector also played a key role, with its added value increasing by 5.5%, contributing approximately 0.51 percentage points to the growth.

While manufacturing industries saw a 0.9% increase in added value, the energy, mining, and water sector declined by 1.7%, impacted by a 9.6% drop in mining activity and a 1.1% decrease in oil and natural gas extraction. Overall industrial growth was limited to 0.3% due to these declines. Domestic demand rose by 3.3%, helping to offset a contraction caused by net foreign trade, as imports grew by 11.2%.

The Tunisian government aims for an economic growth rate of approximately 3.3% in 2026, though the International Monetary Fund has projected a more modest stabilization around 2.1%.
