Tunisia electricity cuts prompt legal action and urgent pharma meeting

The executive bureau of the National Organisation of Entrepreneurs (ONE) in Tunisia issued a strong statement denouncing repeated, unplanned electricity outages. ONE holds the state electricity company STEG fully responsible for heavy material losses suffered by hundreds of businesses, warning that the disruptions threaten production, investment and employment. The organisation has set up a legal cell of lawyers and experts to assist affected firms in filing claims and pursuing action in courts or administrative bodies, and it has urged the authorities to prioritize power supply to industrial zones, create a multi‑party crisis cell, implement transparent damage reporting and establish compensation mechanisms.

The Tunisian National Order of Pharmacists (CNOPT) also warned that the outages jeopardize the cold‑chain for temperature‑sensitive medicines such as vaccines and insulin, endangering patient safety. CNOPT sent a formal request to STEG’s CEO for an emergency meeting to discuss immediate solutions and a strategic plan to prevent future disruptions and ensure continuity of pharmaceutical services.
