Tunisia examines red meat supply and livestock replenishment
Tunisian ministers of Agriculture, Ezzeddine Ben Cheikh, and Commerce, Samir Abid, held a joint meeting to address the red meat sector and ensure national market stability. The discussions focused on implementing a national program to supply sacrificial sheep for Eid El-Adha in 2027, aiming to meet citizen needs while considering purchasing power.
The meeting also reviewed progress on a national livestock replenishment program and addressed structural challenges within the industry. Key stakeholders, including the Ellouhoum Company, the Office of State Lands, the National Office of Livestock Feed, and the Office of Livestock and Pastures (OEP), are involved in efforts to restore sector equilibrium and strengthen medium to long-term production capacities. Discussions further covered livestock feed supply and cost control measures.
