Tunisia explores Brazil’s PIX instant payment system
A delegation from the Central Bank of Tunisia (BCT), accompanied by representatives from the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), conducted a study visit to Brazil to examine the PIX instant payment system. The mission aimed to draw insights from Brazil’s digital payment transformation to inform potential modernization of Tunisia’s national payment system and enhance financial inclusion.
During the visit, the Tunisian delegation held discussions with the Central Bank of Brazil regarding the governance, regulatory framework, and business model of PIX. The experts also met with major Brazilian financial and technological entities, including Nubank, Itaú Unibanco, PicPay, and ABFintechs, to observe how the system integrates with the fintech ecosystem.
While the visit signals interest in the Brazilian model, no official decision has been made regarding the adoption of a similar system or a specific implementation timeline in Tunisia.
