Tunisia Football Federation cuts player bans, nears appointment of new national team coach

The Tunisian Football Federation’s (FTF) appeal commission reduced the disciplinary sanctions for two players involved in a capital derby. Defender Mohamed Amine Tougaï’s suspension was lowered from 12 months to four months, retroactive to 10 May 2026 and ending on 10 September 2026. Forward Firas Chaouat’s three‑match ban was cut to a single match, which he has already served, allowing him to return to competition.

Separately, the FTF has resumed negotiations with Tunisian coach Mouine Chaâbani to appoint him as head of the national team, the Aigles de Carthage. The impasse over Chaâbani’s release clause with Moroccan club RS Berkane has been resolved, and discussions now focus on contract length and performance targets. A decision on his appointment is expected in the coming days.
