Tunisia hosts Phoenix Express 26 multilateral naval exercise

Tunisia is hosting the multilateral naval exercise ‘Phoenix Express 26’ from September 6 to 18. Organized by the United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) in cooperation with Tunisian authorities, the maneuver involves approximately 400 military personnel and observers from 13 participating nations, including the United States, Tunisia, Algeria, Libya, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, Malta, Italy, France, Spain, Belgium, and Georgia.

The exercise utilizes five military vessels to enhance regional cooperation and develop joint operational capabilities regarding maritime security. Training focuses on the effective use of modern technological systems and improving skills to combat illicit maritime activities, organized crime, smuggling, and human trafficking.

The program includes theoretical courses and workshops covering maritime intelligence, ship inspection, the use of unmanned surface vehicles, and defense against biological and chemical threats. It also addresses maritime law, first aid, and medical support to improve stability and security in the Mediterranean region.
