Tunisia launches National Cooling Action Plan to manage energy demand
Tunisia has officially launched the development of its first National Cooling Action Plan (NCAP) to address rising electricity consumption and energy security concerns. The project began on September 11, 2026, in Tunis, under the supervision of the National Agency for Energy Management (ANME).
The initiative receives technical and financial support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). This move aligns with the Global Cooling Pledge established during COP28, requiring the country to create a national roadmap to manage the growing demand for cooling.
The plan aims to address the impact of cooling on the electrical grid and national climate goals. Beyond residential comfort, the NCAP focuses on the economic necessity of cooling infrastructure in sectors such as food processing, healthcare, logistics, and industry, where maintaining temperature is critical for production and safety.
