Tunisia marks 70th anniversary of UN membership
Tunisia is celebrating United Nations Day, marking the 81st anniversary of the UN's creation and the 70th anniversary of Tunisia joining the organization on November 12, 1956.
In a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tunisia expressed pride in its constructive partnership with the UN and praised the work of specialized agencies operating within the country. These agencies are currently collaborating on the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2027–2031, which Tunisia intends to align with its national development scheme to ensure inclusive growth.
The Tunisian government called for increased international solidarity and a strengthening of collective security to restore trust in the institution. To achieve this, Tunisia emphasized the need for strict adherence to international law and a profound structural reform of UN organs to ensure the organization remains a legitimate guarantor of peace and security for all peoples.
