Tunisia Plans Complementary Finance Law for 2026 Amid Oil Price Surge

Tunisia is preparing a supplementary finance law for the 2026 budget, announced by Maher El Kattari, president of the parliamentary Finance and Budget Commission. He cited the sharp rise in international oil prices—from the $63 per barrel baseline used for the 2026 budget to over $100 per barrel—as the primary driver of new fiscal pressures.

El Kattari warned that each $50 increase in oil price adds roughly 500 million Tunisian dinars in monthly expenditure, threatening the state's financial balance. The draft complementary finance law is expected to be presented to the Assembly of Representatives of the People in October, alongside the review of the 2027 budget bill.
