Tunisia prepares for week-long heatwave with temperatures up to 47°C

Tunisia is preparing for a new heatwave starting Sunday, August 23, 2026, which is expected to last approximately one week. While less intense than the extreme heatwave recorded in July, temperatures could reach between 46°C and 47°C in certain regions, including Kairouan, Sidi Bouzid, Tozeur, and Kébili.

Expert Amer Bahba notes that the heat will be accompanied by an intensification of the Chehili, a hot and dry wind characteristic of the region. Additionally, atmospheric instability may cause localized thunderstorms in the afternoon in areas such as Kasserine, Siliana, Kairouan, and Le Kef. High temperatures are forecasted to persist until early September.
