Tunisia President Kaïs Saïed outlines debt‑to‑investment plan in 2026‑2030 development strategy

President Kaïs Saïed convened senior economic officials at the Carthage palace in late July 2026 to review Tunisia's newly ratified Development Plan for 2026‑2030. Attendees included Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, Minister of Economy and Planning Samir Abdelhafidh, and Central Bank Governor Fethi Zouhair Nouri.

The meeting focused on converting part of Tunisia's accumulated public debt into direct investments for rebuilding infrastructure and public services. Saïed emphasized that past debt repayments had not benefited the population, but reaffirmed the country's record of meeting its financial obligations. He called for intensified efforts to implement the five‑year roadmap, describing the period as a decisive moment in Tunisian history that requires unwavering institutional mobilisation.
