Tunisia outlines 2027 budget priorities for economy and social services

Tunisia’s 2027 draft state budget focuses on strengthening economic diplomacy, security cooperation, and social infrastructure. Key economic objectives include attracting foreign investment, boosting exports, and enhancing integration into African economic zones such as AfCFTA and COMESA. The government also aims to support community companies, with plans to increase their number to 500 and provide dedicated financing and marketing support.

In terms of fiscal management, the proposal includes 9.8 billion dinars in interest-free credit facilities from the Treasury to the Central Bank of Tunisia, repayable over 15 years. While intended to fund essential programs like job creation, some officials have raised concerns regarding the allocation of such funds toward public salaries.

Social and educational priorities include combating school violence through enhanced security and listening platforms, addressing student dropout rates, and improving school nutrition and transport. Additionally, the budget addresses climate change challenges by supporting the revision of agricultural strategies and bioclimatic mapping to ensure food security.
