Tunisia: Protests and police clashes erupt in Tunis and Sfax

Violent unrest has broken out in Tunisia, with clashes reported between police and protesters in the capital city of Tunis and the southern town of Jebiniana. In the Tunis suburb of Ettadhamen, security forces used tear gas to disperse crowds following the death of a man detained on suspicion of drug dealing. While the man’s family alleges police abuse caused his death, local media reported he died after swallowing drugs.

In Jebiniana, located in the Sfax governorate, protesters clashed with police and set a vehicle on fire following the death of a man who relatives claim died while being chased by security forces. Additionally, students in the coastal city of Sfax held protests regarding the death of a female student from a cardiac problem, alleging that delayed ambulance response times contributed to the fatality.

These incidents occur amid a deepening economic, social, and political crisis in the country, raising concerns about further widespread protests due to deteriorating living conditions and public services.
