Tunisia reports record olive oil exports amid rising global demand

Tunisia has reached record levels in olive oil exports during the first nine months of the 2025/2026 campaign. According to the National Observatory of Agriculture (ONAGRI), export volumes rose by 55.3% to 368,000 tonnes, compared to 236,900 tonnes in the previous period. This surge resulted in a 44.4% increase in export value, totaling 4,605.3 million dinars.

Extra virgin olive oil accounts for 83.6% of the total volume exported. While bulk exports remain dominant at 86%, packaged olive oil exports grew by 50.8%, reaching 51,500 tonnes. The European Union remains the primary market, absorbing 57.1% of exports, with Spain and Italy being the top destinations. North America follows as the second largest market, representing 24% of exports, led by the United States.

Domestically, the National Oil Office is making additional stocks of extra virgin olive oil available to public sector social structures at a subsidized rate of 11,600 dinars per liter. This initiative aims to provide civil servants with access to essential goods through group orders, bypassing commercial intermediaries to ensure traceability and support middle-class household budgets.
