Tunisia Secures Wheat Supplies Through July 2026 Amid Middle East Conflict

Tunisia's Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Fisheries says the soft wheat purchased after the outbreak of the Middle‑East war will be enough to meet the country's needs until the end of July 2026. Contracts for hard wheat have also been awarded, guaranteeing supply until the start of the national harvest.

The ministry monitors international cereal markets, seizes import opportunities and coordinates financing to complete the 2026 cereal purchases. While the conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States mainly affects oil and energy markets, it has also raised maritime transport costs and insurance premiums for grain shipments. Officials warn that a prolonged war could further disrupt global supply chains by diverting key shipping routes.
