Tunisia strengthens flood prevention and education readiness

Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed and Interior Minister Khaled Nouri are overseeing key national preparations regarding disaster prevention and the upcoming academic year.

Interior Minister Khaled Nouri met with the National Commission for the Prevention and Control of Catastrophes to strengthen the country’s response to potential weather disruptions. The meeting focused on transitioning from a reactive to a preventive approach, particularly ahead of expected weather disturbances in the coming weeks and throughout the autumn and winter seasons. Nouri urged regional and local authorities to increase vigilance in vulnerable areas, such as low-lying zones, riverbeds, and urban areas prone to water accumulation, while accelerating maintenance work like cleaning watercourses.

Separately, President Kaïs Saïed chaired a meeting at the Carthage Palace to discuss the start of the school and university year. Saïed emphasized the ongoing need for education reform to ensure equal access for all citizens. He highlighted the importance of addressing logistical challenges, including student transportation, safety around educational facilities, and the provision of free school supplies and meals to prevent school dropouts caused by distance or economic hardship.
