Tunisia summons French ambassador over contested interview with ex-president Moncef Marzouki
On 24 July 2026 the Tunisian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, acting on instructions from President Kais Saïed, summoned French Ambassador Anne Guéguen to convey a formal protest. The protest targeted a broadcast by the French public channel France 24 that featured an interview with former Tunisian President Moncef Marzouki, who is currently wanted by Tunisian judicial authorities.
Tunisia said the interview constituted an attack on the country’s sovereignty, national security and state institutions and amounted to an explicit call for sedition and internal unrest. The ministry accused France 24 of unacceptable interference in Tunisia’s internal affairs and urged the French government to take “necessary measures” under its own laws to prevent such actions.
The diplomatic row underscores heightened tensions between Tunisian and French officials over media coverage of a political opponent of President Saïed.
