Tunisia water crisis worsens amid heatwave
Tunisia is facing an intensifying water crisis exacerbated by a severe heatwave. The shortage has led to growing public discontent, with citizens queuing at stores to secure supplies as bottled water stocks deplete rapidly.
In response to the scarcity, the Tunisian army has intervened to assist in the distribution of potable water. While bottled water supplies are running low, authorities note that water distributed via the public network (SONEDE) remains subject to strict bacteriological controls and is safe for consumption. Challenges include the taste of chlorine and water temperature increases due to the heat.
