Tunisia wins first gold medal at 2026 Mediterranean Games

Tunisia has secured its first gold medal at the 2026 Mediterranean Games in Taranto, Italy, through taekwondo athlete Firas Katoussi. Competing in the under 80 kg category, Katoussi defeated Morocco's Zahrouti to claim the top spot.

The Tunisian delegation has seen significant success across multiple disciplines, bringing their total medal count to eight, consisting of one gold, two silver, and five bronze medals. In taekwondo, Wafa Masghouni earned a silver medal in the under 67 kg category, while Mohamed Khalil Jendoubi secured silver in the under 68 kg category. Chayma Toumi also contributed a bronze medal to the taekwondo tally.

In swimming, Ahmed Jaouadi has been a standout performer, earning bronze medals in both the 400 m freestyle and the 800 m freestyle. Mohamed Yassine Ben Abbes also reached the podium with a bronze in the 200 m backstroke. Other notable performances include fencing contributions from Fares Ferjani and progress in padel by the duo Dorra Chemli and Nour Allani.
