Tunisian and Algerian dinars show varying exchange rate trends

Recent economic data from North African central banks shows varying performance for the Tunisian and Algerian dinars.

According to the Central Bank of Tunisia, the Tunisian dinar remained stable against the euro at the end of June 2026 but depreciated by 2% against the US dollar compared to the end of 2025. However, when comparing the first half of 2026 to the same period in 2025, the dinar appreciated by 5.9% against the US dollar. The volume of foreign exchange operations on the spot market rose to 13.971 billion dinars by late June 2026, a 23.7% increase from the previous year, driven largely by interbank market activity.

In Algeria, the Bank of Algeria reported a slight strengthening of the Algerian dinar against the euro as of August 31, 2026. The euro was trading at 154.88 dinars for sale and 154.85 dinars for purchase, falling slightly below the 155 dinar threshold. While this represents a minor daily progression, the euro had seen a general upward trend against the dinar throughout the second half of August.
