Tunisian authorities intensify flood and waste management efforts

Regional authorities in Sousse and Sfax, Tunisia, are intensifying efforts to prepare for the upcoming rainy season and mitigate flood risks.

In Sousse, Governor Sofiene Tanfouri monitored cleaning operations aimed at eliminating pollution and waste accumulation. In the Essaâda area of the Ezzouhour municipality, teams evacuated approximately 35 metric tons of construction waste. The initiative involved the National Agency for Waste Management and several municipal teams from M’saken, Akouda, Chott Meriem, Sidi El Heni, Hammam Sousse, Messaadine, and Zaouia to improve environmental conditions and prevent illegal dumping.

In Sfax, Governor Mohamed Hajri is overseeing urgent infrastructure works to improve water flow in high-risk areas, including the Sidi Salem and Maou valleys. Authorities have set a deadline for the completion of these works by the end of August. Specific focus is being placed on the Maou valley and strategic sectors like the Bourguiba belt, the civil protection intersection, and the bus station to prevent water stagnation and traffic disruptions during autumn rains.
