Senegal Health Workers Announce 72‑Hour Nationwide Strike June 24‑26

The Federation of Health Syndicates (F2S) in Senegal has declared a 72‑hour general strike from Wednesday 24 June to Friday 26 June 2026, with no minimum service provision. The action follows a postponed meeting with the minister of public service and a lack of dialogue on longstanding demands. In addition to the strike, the F2S will suspend vaccination activities between 29 June and 6 July, raising concerns about immunisation coverage.

The union reiterates its grievances: the government’s failure to recruit the pledged 3,700 health agents for 2025, the call for a joint commission to set objective recruitment criteria, a quota of 1,000 positions for staff with more than ten years of service in regions such as Tambacounda, Kédougou, Sédhiou, Matam, Kolda and Ziguinchor, universal housing allowances, competitive appointment processes for management, and raising the optional retirement age to 65. A press briefing is scheduled for 23 June to outline the strike plan and related pressure measures.
