Tunisian journalists report decrease in August aggressions
The National Syndicate of Tunisian Journalists (SNJT) reported a decrease in attacks against media professionals in August 2026. According to the syndicate's monitoring unit, eight aggressions were recorded, down from 22 in July.
The reported incidents involved 17 victims, including nine women and eight men across seven media outlets. The types of incidents included three cases of harassment, two instances of being barred from practicing, one case of arbitrary detention, one instance of censorship, and one legal prosecution.
Security agents were identified as the primary alleged perpetrators in three cases. Other reported aggressions involved festival management, a social media user, and a media director. In response, the SNJT has called on the government to establish public policies to protect journalists and preserve professional independence. The syndicate also urged the Ministry of Interior to conduct administrative investigations and requested that judicial authorities investigate threats and defamation campaigns against the press.
